New thread for discussion of freeze/release plans.
We'll have another go at it (Bug437) for 2.1.4. So current plan is to
go into freeze tomorrow. We'll be just over a week in freeze, and
then working to release.

I think it's just as well to leave 437 for now.

I'm time (and health) poor too.

Can you be more specific on suggested dates, please.

According to
http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Release_Process#Process_.28James.29

the freeze should be two weeks but of course I know you can change
anything. Is RC1 still 1 week?

I think the Manual has quite a few P1's now (and at least one not
listed - new modified click track selection). And of course I should get
resolving the DEVEL-FIXED P2 and P3. I've been without an external
monitor recently (but have one now) which also slowed me down and
meant I could not resolve 1314.

Might 10 days be better for freeze if you don't want 2 weeks?

Oh and can we get a signed Mac ZIP/DMG for freeze time? The Mac
not recognising plugins and libraries on Sierra first-time installs of
Audacity is a concern (if that indeed describes the problem).

The issue is not fully understood but must be documented with
workarounds.

We need to know before end of freeze if the signed Mac binaries are
going to help or not.

I'm intending 11 days from Freeze to RC1.
Then 10 days to release IF RC1 is problem free.
This is all very mutable though. I'm sure it won't be shorter than that.

I do intend to do some signed builds to try things out before the
updated translations come back.

When is it all right to make the plan public?

Many users have been asking me for a hint about when 2.1.3 will release. I
haven't known what to tell them.

Devel is a public list, so the plan is public.
There are unknowns. We don't know how many RCs there will be.
If there are 2 RCs we should release in December.
I have high confidence in the Windows build, but worries about Linux and
Mac.

So bur 437 will wait one more release, but I can have it ready first thing
for 2.1.4.

Does this mean I can take a rest for now?

Yes Paul, it does. You've done masses.

This was extremely short notice of a freeze,

I thought that too (especially as I was at work with my paid job, so didn't
receive the announcement 'till I returned home the next day).

Yes, I said so too to James off list. And an exact time of freeze in UTC
would be appreciated too.

I agree too. It was short notice.
If there are non string changes to make, run them past me and I may say
yes to them.
